Still Life of Luxury, Acrylic on canvas, 8x10 in, 2025
The creative force is an innate one, and it is connected to our psychology, history, and spirituality-key elements of the human experience. Considering this gnostic frame of worldview, I create to get in touch with my own psychology and see just how it interacts with our collective unconscious, shared stories, and the ultimate connection we share with our world. Through building allegories and abstractions which reference my own life experience, historical events, and esoteric traditions from Europe, Africa and the Americas, I make connections between current events and those of our ancestors. In this effort, my goal is to illuminate the persistence of dualistic human nature and the constant need for those who overcome the darker side of it- well as the very complex, even ironic character of that nature.
Given the breadth of human experience, I find myself drawn to many different subjects-from beautiful, classically composed still lives to politics and its connection to history. Nonetheless, I see this as all part of the unified glossary of symbols which convey insights into the human consciousness. When deciphered or meditated upon-especially alongside contrasting pieces-the story portrayed can begin to harmonize with the individual and give way to personal introspection.
